We’re going to see just how simple it could be to set up a cloud data management platform without a need for specialized backup engineer and complex backup and recovery rigmarole, so your organizations can efficiently protect your data and scale at the speed of your growth on-premise or in the cloud.
With Rubrik, we can set up a master-less data protection cluster in just a few minutes, which is the focus of this post, without in-depth backup administration skills. BS you say? Stop here and take a gander at the body of this posts – there are 3 steps only! Now, this cluster can be easily scaled out to provide more performance and capacity when required, or can simply extend to the cloud for more economic storage resource.
1. Rubrik can start with one 2U box (also referred to as a Brik) that contains 3 compute nodes with 1 SSD and 3 HDD each. For the initial setup, simply rack-mount the Brik, and connect the 10Gbps and IPMI ports of each node.
2. Connect your MacBook (Windows users need to install Bonjour Print Services which usually comes installed with iTunes) to the same switch to automatically discover the nodes of the Brik via mDNS.
Open Google Chrome and head to https://RVM16CS004194.local which is the serial number of either of the nodes.
3. Simply fill out this one-page form with appropriate values fitting to your infrastructure, and then click Setup System.
This whole process could take up to mere 15 minutes before you are taken to the administration console.
The admin console can be accessed next time using any of the IP addresses you assigned to any node.
Well, that’s all there is to it when it comes to setting up an enterprise data protection system. What happened to provisioning, setting up, and designing a clustered Master Servers, Media / Proxy Servers, Backup storage, Catalog database, Deduplication settings, and all the other knobs that make up a data protection system? Glad you asked because they are all baked in and fully setup by simply going through 3 steps of this post.
Cool huh?! There are more automated stuff in this solution to ease and simplify enterprise data management, which I’ll share in the following posts.
